La Bohème- (The Bohemian Girl) opera’s great love story set in sparkling Paris- the beauty, passion, and enchantment of love comes to Chatham with NJ Lyric Opera on Sunday, November 24th 3pm in Chatham.
As part of Concerts On Main, a local arts series, which recently saw Motown group The Priceless Band, NJ Lyric Opera returns after their inventive and exciting Elixir of Love.
A special collection will be held to help support local charity Homeless Solutions.
Starring exquisite soprano Franchesca Solis as Mimi, a bohemian seamstress and the girl-next-door; tenor Diego Valdez, a voice to be heard, as Rodolfo, an idealistic poet and versatile soprano Yujin Zeng as the extraordinary Musetta, a famed singer in Paris.

Featuring local talents warm voiced baritone Stephen Walley as Marcello, a painter and Musetta’s off and on lover, Steven Switzer and Chaka Allen as the charming Colline (a philosopher) and Schaunard (a musician), Izaya Perrier as the landlord Benoit, musical crossover artist John Paul Durazzo as the comedic Alcindoro, a state councilor and Musetta’s date. Rounding out the cast are Cruz Roger Romero Sarah Joseph and Emily Niemeyer and a children’s chorus.
“This work is such a gem says,” Artistic Director John Calkins, “Each character is relatable and heartwarming. I find this overarching theme the characters are trying to navigate: life’s gifts in all circumstances, choosing happiness and finding joy in the small things. This is the essence of La Bohème. ” As for how rehearsals have been going, Calkins expressed, “The artists on stage sound breathtaking,”
